About
A small practice built for labs that cannot justify a data department
Calyra BioData is an independent dry-lab analytics consultancy based in Toronto, Ontario, working remotely with research groups, contract labs and small biotech companies across North America.
Why this exists
The gap is structural, not accidental
A lab of a dozen people can generate sequencing runs, instrument exports and study datasets at a rate that would occupy a full-time statistician. It cannot, sensibly, employ one. So the analysis gets done by whoever has the least busy week, in a spreadsheet, with methods that live in someone's head.
That works until a reviewer asks how the sample size was justified, or an auditor asks which version of the data produced the figure, or the person who built the pipeline leaves.
Calyra BioData exists to be the version of that work you can hire for four weeks and still defend two years later: written plan, documented methods, reproducible code, one accountable point of contact.
Operating model
Owner-managed, specialist-delivered
The practice is deliberately structured so that scoping, quality control and accountability sit in one place, while the technical work is done by people who specialise in it.
- Based in
- Toronto, Ontario
- Works with
- Canada & United States
- Engagement model
- Fixed scope, fixed price
- Founder-led scoping. Every engagement is scoped, priced and quality-controlled by the practice owner, George Kyriazis, who stays your point of contact from first call to handover.
- Independent specialists deliver. Biostatisticians, bioinformaticians and QA reviewers are engaged as vetted independent contractors, matched to the specific project rather than assigned by availability.
- No idle overhead in your invoice. You pay for the specialist your project needs, not for a bench you are subsidising between projects.
- Capacity is confirmed before it is promised. We do not sign a fixed deadline until the person who will deliver it is secured.
How we operate
Three commitments
Calyra BioData is a new practice, and we would rather be judged on how we behave than on a client list we have not earned yet.
We say no when it is not a fit
If your problem needs wet-lab capability, regulatory sign-off, or a discipline outside our bench, we will tell you on the first call and point you elsewhere where we can.
Your work stays yours
Data is used only for your project, held only as long as agreed, and never used in a public case study without written permission. Deliverables and scripts are yours outright.
Nothing ships that cannot be reproduced
If we cannot hand you the code that regenerates a result, we do not hand you the result.
